Weins pleaded guilty to both charges and was fined $10,000 plus $5.00 cost of court for the firearm charge. He was ordered to pay $1,000 now and the balance by September 30, in default, one year?s imprisonment.

In relation to the beating of his daugher, the magistrate also bound him over to keep the peace for one year. He was ordered to be good to his daughter, and if he fails to do so, he will have to pay $750 immediately, or in default, one year imprisonment.

Weins? wife told police that he had beaten their daughter with a battery cable on her back, arms and legs, causing the teenager to suffer many bruises to her body.

The incident occurred around 12:00 midday on Tuesday, June 27, at the Weins? residence, located in the Mennonite Community of Little Belize, which is in the Corozal District.

A medical report certified the daughter?s injuries as harm.

According to Police Department records in Corozal, this is the first time they have had to charge a member of the Mennonite community with an offense of this nature.

Police were reluctant to disclose what the child had done that could have caused her father to beat her with the cable.

A reliable source to Amandala said that this is not the first time the father has been abusive to his daughter, but this is the first reported incidence to police.

Our sources say the father referred to his daughter as a ?troublesome child.?

The Commissioner of Police, Gerald Westby, advises parents and guardians that while it is often times reasonable and lawful to discipline children, this disciplinary action should be done by reasonable means, and should not constitute cruel punishment.

Weins? case was adjourned for sometime next month.
