Miguel Castillo, 48, a meat vendor and father of well-known cyclist Marlon Castillo, was murdered in the driveway at his home in Belama Phase 3 on Thursday night at around 8 o’clock.
This is another grievous blow to the Castillo family. Marlon had lost his friend, Ariel Rosado, 28, in a fatal traffic accident in May of 2011 and he is facing charges in relation to Rosado’s death.
The family of Miguel Castillo are grieving, and they have opted not to comment to the media.
Police say that Miguel Castillo had just arrived home on Albert Hoy Street in his Ford pickup truck when three men approached him, and one of them pulled out a firearm. That person then fired three shots at him through his window.
The bullets shattered the glass and Castillo was hit in the right upper shoulder and the right side of his neck. He was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, but there he succumbed to his injuries.
Police suspect that these men were studying his habits to have expertly ambushed and murdered him in this fashion.
Residents told us that they believe that Castillo was marked for robbery. He may have managed to roll up his glass window, but they shot him through the glass, anyhow.
He was the owner of Castillo’s Meat Shop in the Michael Finnegan Market, and a black bow was placed on the establishment’s door to signify a time of grieving for a hard-working man who was murdered senselessly.
Marlon Castillo has to prepare to bury his father four months after he lost his best friend, Ariel Rosado. Castillo was driving a white Toyota Tacoma on Saturday, May 16, 2011 when the vehicle crashed into a concrete fence and ended up across the median in the vicinity of the Smart Telecommunications establishment.
Rosado suffered severe head injuries and died at the hospital about an hour later.
Castillo has since been charged with manslaughter by negligence, causing death by careless conduct, driving without due care and attention, driving under the influence of alcohol above the prescribed limit, and using an unlicensed motor vehicle.
