GeneralMinor charged for the murder of Percival Pilgrim

BELIZE CITY, Fri. Mar. 19, 2021– A minor, 16, has been arrested and charged for the daylight murder of Percival Pilgrim which took place on Tuesday afternoon. Pilgrim, 24, was shot as he headed toward the Lakeview area along with a teenage boy, who was also injured.

Reports are that they were approached by two men, one of whom inflicted the fatal injury to Pilgrim. The teenager who was with him was grazed on his right arm during the shooting.

Pilgrim was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH), where he passed away in the early hours of Wednesday morning after undergoing surgery.

The minor who is believed to have carried out the shooting will be remanded to the Belize Central Prison for the indictable offense, but a family member of his has since told local media that the police nabbed the wrong man.

His aunt told 7News that her nephew was at home at the time of the shooting and that a short while after the police finished processing the murder scene, they went to her mother’s residence to detain her nephew.

She said that following a previous incident, her nephew had distanced himself from the Ghost Town Gang after being allegedly “snitched on” and jailed for murder. Since his release, he was not associated with the members of the gang in that area.

According to his aunt, various witnesses can attest to the innocence of her nephew.
