ORANGE WALK TOWN, Tue. Nov. 23, 2021 — This past weekend saw the start of the Orange Walk Football Association (OWFA) 2021-22 1st Division Male Amateur Tournament with Week #1 games being played at the Louisiana Field. Two games were on Friday, November 19, one on Saturday and two on Sunday, November 21.

There are 11 teams in the competition, 5 in Group A and 6 in Group B.
Group A – Progresso FC, San Francisco FC, San Felipe FC, San Antonio FC, and Caribbean Rum Boyz FC.
Group B – Yo Creek La Ceiba FC, Louisiana FC, Galacticos FC, Carmelita FC, San Jose Pumas FC, and Guinea Grass FC.

In game 1 to kick off the tournament on Friday, November 19, Guinea Grass FC crushed Yo Creek La Ceiba FC, 7-2. Guinea Grass goals came from Charles Tillett (4’), Francisco Rivas (21’ & 58’), Miguel Yco (28’, 63’ & 82’) and Leomar Narvallez (48’); while Rolando Chan (2’) and Alexis Hernandez (55’) scored for Yo Creek. Game 2 was a 1-1 draw between San Jose Pumas FC and Louisiana FC. After a scoreless first half, Kevin Valladarez (58’) put San Jose in front; but Louisiana got the equalizer through a San Jose own goal by Swanie Velasquez (69’ OG).

The only game on Saturday saw San Antonio FC prevailing, 4-2, over San Felipe FC. Shaking the net for San Antonio were Brandon Amaya (22’), Axel Alamilla (32’ & 70’) and Hector Carlos (54’); while San Felipe got a goal each from Jerome Banner (11’) and Allison Torres (88’).

The opener on Sunday was a nail biter between Carmelita FC and Galacticos FC. It was tied 1-1 from a Carmelita goal by Phillip Rhaburn (48’) and an equalizer by Galacticos’ Gabriel Perez (58’), until Carmelita got the game winner in “money time” from Oscar Reyes (89’). The nightcap was anything but a nail biter, as Caribbean Rum Boyz FC destroyed San Francisco FC, 11-nil, with

Camilo Sanchez netting what must be a record 9 goals (14’, 17’, 40’, 50’, 64’, 70’, 81’, 83’ & 87’) along with one each from Orvin Osorio (43’) and Andir Chi (55’).
