I would like to invite Mr. Henry Gordon and all those that would like to know about the history of this land that today we call Belize, what it was like before the arrival of the pirates who after became ?The Baymen Clan?, to read Chapter One of Assad Shoman?s 13 Chapters ? Transforming the Maya World. The Maya World is comprised of the States of Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatan and Quintana Roo in Mexico; Belize, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador. And it has about 500,000 square kilometers. Now let me go to another book titled: ?A History of Quintana Roo, Anthology, the Relations with Belize.? The Lieutenant Colonel E. Rogers says in a speech that he gave to the members of the Athenian of Manchester on the 14thof October in 1885. He referred to the Icaiches as ?non-intelligent, wild Indians, invaders,? etc. The British Baymen thought that the country that today we call Belize had never been inhabited. Their ignorance can be forgiven, but not that of today?s few mulatoos, mestizos, or Creoles ? ?Sons of the Baymen?s clan?. They just have to take an intelligent look around themselves and on one side see our ancient physical holy temples and history that were made by our ancestors ? the Maya who the ?Sons of the Baymen?s clan? are still taking advantage of, and getting richer and richer off the Maya ancestors? knowledge and land. The British Baymen had always looked at the Maya as ?Wild Indians?, as ?invaders? in our own Maya World Land. Is that the reason why they mentioned in their National Anthem: ?Our fathers, the Baymen, valiant and bold, drove back the invader?? The Mayans only had bows and arrows; the British Baymen had guns, cannon-gatling, etc. You should feel ashamed of your Baymen behaviour but you brag about it to the tourists that come visit our ancient Maya sites. Now I can understand why you exclude our people from your National Anthem. The Lieutenant Colonel E. Rogers said in the report that was made from the Yalbac military camp on 13thFebruary, 1867, that the villages with the names of San Pedro, San Jose, Santa Teresa were destroyed and burnt down and the ?invaders? had run away. On the 7thof March of the same year the British military force arrived at the El Naranjal village. That was also destroyed, but before, they found many graves that were recently dug. After an examination they discovered that it was the ?wild Indians? (Maya) who died after the combat at the San Jose village near Yalbac. The fundamental objective of the expedition of 1867 was to capture or kill Marcos Canul and destroy the Icaiches and to take away San Pedro, Santa Teresa, San Jose and El Naranjal near Yalbac for the colonizers. The British West Indies military force of 1867 did the dirty work and were well paid for it. They were also given medals as recognition for killing the Mayans. So said Lieutenant Colonel E. Rogers on October 14 in 1885. One of the objectives of the 3rdand 4thWest India Regiments was to move Marcos Canul out of the way, drive back the ?non-intelligent, wild Indians, invaders,? etc., from the land that our ancestors had claimed, and place a scientific topography, including the land that our hero Marcos Canul was in all his rights fighting for his people, setting it as part of the British Honduras territory. Regardless of the adversity, our Mayans had never left the area. According to tradition they would always build back their village. Plus the British Baymen also needed the Mayans as working slaves. Those who destroyed our people, took away our land, used us as slaves, raped our women and children. In whose mind can say that they are our Saviour, in which land of the free?
