Promotions and transfers in senior police command

BELMOPAN, Thurs. Jan. 17, 2019– Yesterday, at the Police Training Academy in Belmopan, there was a changing of the guard in the Police Department as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, took over command from outgoing Commissioner, Allen Whylie, who has retired. The Governor General of Belize, Sir Colville Young, presided over the ceremony.

At the ceremony, the new Commissioner announced some changes in the senior ranks of the Police Department. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Edward Broaster is now the Deputy Commissioner of Police and National Commander of Operations and Crimes Investigations.

Broaster will be assisted by ACP Joseph Myvette, who remains as the Head of National Crimes Investigations, and Senior Superintendent Marco Vidal, who will be promoted to ACP, in charge of Operations.

ACP Robert Mariano will be promoted to Second Deputy Commissioner, and moves back to Belmopan, where he will be the National Management and Administration Commander. He will be assisted by ACP Dezerie Magdaleno, who will become the Commander of Management.

Senior Superintendent Alden Dawson, Eastern Division 3 Commander, will move from Ladyville to the Raccoon Street Police Station in Belize City, to take over Mariano’s position as Divisional Commander of Eastern Division.

Supt. Lincoln Hemsley moves from Belmopan to Ladyville, to become the new Eastern Division 3 Commander (Belize District Rural).

The Legal Planning and Research, Inspection and Implementation Unit will be headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Bartholomew (Bart) Jones, the present Legal Advisor. He will be assisted by Superintendent Richard Rosado, who has been transferred from Cayo to Belmopan to be his deputy.

There will be different desks within that unit to ensure that policies are created for the betterment of the department, Commissioner Williams said.

Southern Regional Commander, ACP Alford Grinage, moves from Dangriga to Joint Intelligence Command and Control (JICC) in Belmopan, and Senior Superintendent Sandra Bowden moves from Belmopan to take her place as the Southern Regional Commander.

Senior Supt. Linden Flowers remains as the Western Regional Commander, while Senior Supt. Luis Castellanos remains as the Northern Regional Commander.

Supt. Daniel Arzu will take command as the new Eastern Division Region 1 Commander, from Senior Supt. Howell Gillett, who moves back to Belmopan to replace Senior Supt. Marco Vidal as the new Commander of Special Branch.

Commissioner Williams said that there are going to be promotions and transfers in the lower ranks in the coming weeks.
