R.G. City Boys United the only undefeated team in the nation

SportsR.G. City Boys United the only undefeated team in the nation
The Belize Bank Super League Tournament completed Week 8 of its regular season this past weekend, and league leaders and defending champion Raymond Gentle-City Boys United remain the only undefeated team in top league football in Belize, including both the Super League and the BPFL. And their captain Deon McCaulay remains the hottest striker in Belize football.

On Saturday night at the MCC Grounds in Belize City, home squad Third World FC may have hit “rock bottom” with their devastating 6-0 loss to visiting Orange Walk United. It was Orange Walk all the way from the opening whistle, with goals coming from Orlando Castillo (6 min), Oliver Hendricks (16 min), Jarret Davis (44 min), Alfred Jesse (75 min – penalty) and Marlon Miranda (87 & 88 min). Orange Walk are now 5-0 since enlisting the services of coach Jorge Nunez. The last time they lost was to the champions, but that was before Nunez took over the coaching job. Their next meeting should be interesting, but that will be sometime after the Easter holidays.

On Sunday, the champs R.G. City Boys United made the long journey down south to face the tough Paradise/Freedom Fighters at their Toledo Union Field. Alexander “Pleck” Peters put the Freedom Fighters on the scorecard early at the 29th minute, but City Boys responded quickly with goals from Shannon Flowers at the 31st and Deon McCaulay at the 39th minute to end the half with a 2-1 lead. Deon struck again at the 54th minute, but Pleck also hit the target once more for the home team to maintain the one goal difference, 3-2. At the end of regulation, the champs were still undefeated, 3-2 winners of their eighth consecutive game in the tournament.

In other Sunday action, it was Placencia Assassin, 4-0, over cellar dwellers Cayo South United at the Camalote Football Field, where the visiting Assassin had goals from Leomar Leslie (15 & 37 min), Ashley Torres (23 min) and Dalton Eiley (80 min – penalty).

Also on Sunday, home standing Hattieville Monarch settled for a 1-1 draw with visiting Griga Knight’s at the Hattieville Football Field. Leron Thomas put the visitors in front at the 12th minute, but Jerome “Jarro” James equalized for Hattieville at the 19th minute, to give the hosts their 4th draw game of the tournament.
