GeneralReginald Ruiz, 60, injured in road accident

ST. MATTHEWS, Cayo District, Mon. Sept. 2, 2019– Reginald Ruiz, 60, of Camalote, Cayo District, was driving his three-wheel motorcycle at about 5:00 yesterday evening from Roaring Creek to Belize City, when on his arrival in St. Matthews, between Miles 45 and 44 on the George Price Highway, a vehicle hit the back of his motorcycle.

Ruiz was thrown off his motorcycle and landed on the pavement. As a result, he suffered serious head and body injuries. He was taken to the Western Regional Hospital, after which he was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he has been admitted in a critical condition.

ACP Joseph Myvett said that a police pickup was traveling in the same direction that Ruiz was heading in, down the George Price Highway towards Belize City, when it tried to overtake the three-wheel motorcycle, but it hit the back of the motorcycle, causing the collision. The driver of the pickup at the time was Inspector Clifton Jones.

Inspector Jones provided a blood sample and submitted to an alcohol blood test. He also gave a statement, and a Notice of Intended Prosecution was issued to him. Myvett said that a blood sample will also be taken from Ruiz.
