MILE 8 COMMUNITY, Belize District, Thurs. Aug. 6, 2020–At about 9:00 last night, Shakeem Humes, 23, a resident of the Mile 8 community, was repairing his car in front of his house when a vehicle drove up and stopped, and someone from inside the vehicle called him, and when he went to see what the person wanted, a barrage of gunshots was fired at him.

Residents of the area told police that at least 25 shots were fired, and the vehicle then sped away.

Humes was seen lying on the road in pools of his blood. He had been shot multiple times in the head and body. He was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Police believe that the shooting was gang-related.
