Sunday?s horse races in Burrell Boom

SportsSunday?s horse races in Burrell Boom

The first race of the day saw the O CLASS HRJ HANDICAP 4-furlong horses do battle. These are the little but talented animals that can get up and roll. ?Miracle? from Gabourel Stables, with Manuel on board, ran away from Victory Stables? ?Sweet Destiny? with brother Carlos on board. Third was ?Maya? out of Lennon Stables with leading jockey of the year, Findley Thomas, in the irons. It was then ?Trick Again?, ?Emperor?? and ?Freaky Soldier? in that order. The race was run in a time of 54.5 seconds and this was fair enough time taking into account that these horses normally run 3 furlongs.

The second race of the day was the TEXACO Havoline Untried Upgrades going 4 furlongs. These are the new entrants. It was a 7-horse field. ?High Stepper? from Gabourel Stables, ridden by Manuel, sprang from the gate like a flash with stablemate ?Miss Bliss??, also from the Gabourel Stables. With one furlong to go, ?Small Axe?, with Buddy on board, was closing like a freight train and when the line came was just edged out by ?High Stepper.? ?Miss Bliss?, with Martin on top, was third. Fourth was Cuello?s ?Watch Me Run?; fifth, Wade?s ?Crazy Lady?; sixth, Marshalleck?s ?Spirit? and rounding out the last spot was Russell?s ?All Eyes On You?.

The third race of the day was the TEXACO HAVOLINE Untried Thoroughbreds going 4 furlongs. Urbina?s ?D-Star?, with Findley on top, showed more than dominance from the start, finishing in an impressive time of 50.7 seconds. Second was Canton?s ?So Wild? with Roni on top, while third was Hoare?s ?Once Wild? with Buddy in the irons. Dunker?s ??Aquatic? rounded out this one.

The fourth race of the day was an unofficial private race with horses who did not think that they could compete in the Open E & F 5 furlongs. ?Lady Britney? of Hoare?s Stables finally broke her maiden with Baymen?s ?H20? coming second. Moody?s ?Come At You? closed off the field in this one.

The fifth race of the day was the SMART HANDICAP Open F & E Class going 5 furlongs. Wade Stables? ?Lady Sabrine?, ridden by Findley, showed her dominance as she came flying through the field to claim this one. Second was favorite ?Baron? from Gabourel Stables, ridden by Martin, and third was Guy Stables? ?Trick or Treat?, who, I believe, doesn?t belong in this class. This one was done in 1 minute 9 seconds.

The sixth race of the day was the RUNNING W STAKES Open D & C Class going 6 furlongs. Bedran Stables? ?Finishing Touch?, with Findley on board, got over Ermoff Stables? ?Zeta?, with young jockey sensation A. Ramirez from Sugar City after his saddle slipped way back. His effort must be applauded. Third was Gabourel Stables? ?Blew By U?, with Carlos on board while Lennon Stables? ?Jay Rebel? rounded out the field with Crispin in the irons just back after a long layoff. The race was done in 1 minute 24 seconds.

The seventh race of the day was the R F&G INSURANCE CUP CLASSIC going seven furlongs. This was considered to be the race of the day between Baymen?s ?Answer the Call? and Dunker?s ?Muchacho Fino?. As the race started the 5 horses were all together until, with five furlongs to go, Canton?s ?Bold Assault? stepped to the front uncontested. This immediately spelled big trouble for ?Fino? and the ?Call?, who were in a cat and mouse duel a few lengths back. By the time they reached 2 furlongs to go, ?Bold Assault? was on the front on his bridle setting his own pace. Buddy must have realized then that he had to shake ?Fino?, and when he did so he had to move the ?Call? with everything he had. When they doubled the stretch for home, Roni asked the ?Assault? for more, and he responded, causing the ?Call? to go deep into his reserves. But the line came up too quickly, and he was clipped by ?Bold Assault? in a time of 1 minute 33 seconds. The ?Call? was second, with Carr Stables? ?Sundae?s Victrie? claiming third with Findley on top. ?Fino? did not fire as was expected, and had to settle for fourth with Manuel. Carlos, on board ?Africa?, was in the cellar.

The eighth and final race of the day was the CITRUS PRODUCT OF BELIZE LIMITED ALLOWANCE CLASS going over 8 furlongs. Urbina?s ?Blue Print? with Findley on board, showed she had the stamina to overcome this 6 horse field in a decent time of 1 minute 51 seconds. Second went to Baymen?s Stables? ?Tsunami?, with Martin on board. Third was local upgraded sensation ?Kalian? from the Herrera?s Stables. Fourth was Dunker?s ?Done Deal?, who is only about 6 weeks training in town. Fifth was Quaker?s Stables? ?Society Girl?, while Lennon?s Stables? ?Big Boy? remained in the cellar. I didn?t think the Herrera?s camp
