Teen faces 8 charges for hit-and-run

GeneralTeen faces 8 charges for hit-and-run

BELIZE CITY, Wed. June 9, 2021

Last week, a body was found near the Lemonal Road in rural Belize and was later identified as 87-year-old Thomas “Shugga” Sutherland. A search of the area led to the discovery of a motorcycle that was believed to have been involved in a hit-and-run accident that claimed Sutherland’s life. This subsequently led to the apprehension of 18-year-old Leeron Muslar, who now faces 8 charges in connection with the incident.

Earlier this week, Muslar appeared before the Magistrate’s Court in Belize City, where he was charged for manslaughter by negligence, failure to report an accident, causing death by careless conduct, failure to stop and render aid, use of a motor vehicle without third-party insurance, driving an unlicensed motor vehicle, use of an unregistered vehicle, and driving a motorized vehicle without due care and attention.

No plea was taken from Muslar, since the offenses for which he has been charged are indictable. Muslar’s attorney, Orson “OJ” Elrington, says his client maintains that he is innocent and he awaits the next court date on August 10. Muslar was offered bail of $4,000 plus one surety of the same value, which he ultimately submitted to the court later in the evening.
