The Editor,
Let me offer you a few words of support re: the brouhaha over Tuesday’s front page. The controversy does seem to appear partly contrived and in other cases may be even overblown. The focus should be on why this girl was able to become so suicidal and no one seems to have noticed or cared enough to intervene.
It is arguable that the prominent publication of the photo and note may have been tasteless and could aggravate the emotions of those made bereaved, but it is also arguable that it should bring the increasing incidence of teen and youth suicide far more sharply into focus and our awareness, and the need for us as a society to do far more.
We should not appear to be far more consternated by the publication of the picture and the note than by the suicide itself.
