GeneralTwo stabbings in one day - minor, 17, sent to boot camp

According to police, around 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 29, Elmer Antonio Caliz, a resident of #4530 Larkspur Avenue in the Lake Independence area reported that he was near the Novelo?s Bus Terminal on West Collet Canal, Belize City, when a minor, whom he knows, stabbed him.

Caliz alleged that earlier that day, the minor had also stabbed his cousin, Jose Giron, whilst he was riding a bicycle near the corner of George and King Streets, Belize City. According to Caliz, Giron was stabbed because of an argument he had had with the accused on Saturday night.

Caliz told Amandala that he went inside the terminal because he was looking for his cousin?s attacker. He said that he only wanted to talk with the teen about the stabbing, which he said had taken place earlier that day.

?When I approached him [the minor], he looked frightened,? said Caliz. ?I was talking to him in a nice way, but then I punched him down when I saw that he was reaching for something from his pocket.

?Two guys that were with him held me down to the ground, and when I tried to get up, that was when he stabbed me with a knife in my abdomen,? said Caliz. ? I felt a burning feeling in my abdomen, and when I looked down, I saw a lot of blood.?

Police report that Caliz was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH), where he was admitted in a critical condition.

Elmer Antonio Caliz was released from the KHMH yesterday, Wednesday.

The minor has been remanded to boot camp in the Hattieville Prison. He is scheduled to reappear in court Friday, January 7, 2005.

The minor was not charged for the Giron stabbing.
