GeneralTwo targeted shootings in San Pedro

SAN PEDRO, Ambergris Caye, Tues. July 13, 2021– Over the weekend and leading into Monday night, there were two targeted shootings on the island of San Pedro.

The first of the two shootings occurred on Saturday night around 8:45 at the Clumsy Restaurant and Bar, which is situated in the San Mateo area of San Pedro. It is reported that 35-year-old Luis Abner Tun was a customer at the restaurant when an unknown man of dark complexion entered the establishment.

Shortly after entering the restaurant, the unidentified man pulled out a gun and fired several shots directly at Tun, who was hit multiple times, but survived the attack. He was rushed to the San Pedro Polyclinic for treatment and was later transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City, where he is now listed in a stable but critical condition.

About 2 days later, around 9:30 p.m. on Monday, 25-year-old Joshua Gongora fell victim to the second shooting incident in San Pedro. It is reported that Gongora was riding his bike in the DFC area of San Pedro Town when he was approached by three men.

One of the men was carrying a gun, with which he fired nine shots in Gongora’s direction. Gongora was hit by two of the bullets.

He was rushed to the San Pedro Polyclinic for treatment and was later transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Gongora is now listed in a stable condition, and is recovering from his gunshot injuries.

The police continue to investigate the two shootings, but have not yet identified the suspected gunmen in either of the two incidents.
