Vindication for Greg; BAA application accepted today

SportsVindication for Greg; BAA application accepted today

BELIZE CITY, Wed. Sept. 20, 2022

In an act of apparent desperation, Greg Meyers made a strong appeal directly to other executive members of the Belize Athletic Association (BAA) with an email sent on Friday, September 16, the date our story should have hit the streets but was too late for last Friday’s edition. (See story “BAA rejects Belizean/American Greg Meyers’ application for membership” elsewhere in this edition of Amandala.)

Meyers attached a photocopy of his BAA membership application which was dated as sent on January 12, 2022. He had advised our sports desk that he was in frequent communication over the past month with other BAA executive members, so it was not a case of his previous emails not having been received.

And his September 16 email was addressed to those members, though the tone suggested he was speaking directly to BAA president Deon Sutherland:

MY APPLICATION

“Good Morning everyone.”

“Since you neglected (to) address the issue of previous application, I am communicating to everyone so that it is transparent that on Jan 11 2022 I submitted my application. But here is a new digital copy. Once you acknowledge receipt I will have the moneys deposited.”

Today, September 20, Meyers informed our sports desk that his application had finally been accepted. Not one eager to be adversarial, but a warrior nonetheless, Greg suggested we edit the story, but it was too late.

Hopefully, with the captain’s apparent change of heart, it will be smooth sailing going forward for all our athletes and the Belize Athletics Association.
