GeneralWalter Loyo, 28, succumbs after fighting for his life after collision

BELIZE CITY, Mon. Apr. 1, 2019– Walter Loyo, 28, who was involved in a motorcycle collision at Mile 8 on the George Price Highway, in which he suffered massive head and body injuries, died this morning at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital after fighting for his life for about eight days at the Intensive Care Unit at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.

Police said that at about 2:30 Sunday afternoon, March 24, Loyo and his fiancée, Zinnia Ayala, 20, were traveling on a motorcycle on the George Price Highway, from Hattieville to Belize City, when on their arrival at Mile 8, Loyo lost control of the motorcycle and crashed into a concrete road divider, and as a result, they were thrown off the bike and suffered massive head and body injuries.

Police said that Zinnia Ayala died almost immediately on the scene, while Loyo was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.

Police have since launched a crackdown on motorcycle riders to ensure that they are following road safety procedures and are wearing helmets, which are now mandatory.
