BELIZE CITY, Thurs. Mar. 12, 2020– Women’s football is on a roll in Belize, as six Week 2 games, 4 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday, were played over the weekend in the National Amateur Women’s League (NAWL) 2019-2020 Closing Season.
This Closing Season is divided into 3 zones of 4 teams each. (See latest standing below.) After a double round-robin in each group, the top 2 teams from each group go on together in a Round of 6 playoff; then it’s the semifinals, and the finals.
Saturday games results:
Cowpen Field – Rumberas shut out Toledo Divas, 4-0, with goals from Kelsa Polanco (28’), Sidney Ruiz (61’), Allyson Cione (70’) and Adrianna Sandoval (76’).
Carl Ramos Stadium – Game 1 – Dangriga Warriors blanked Santa Elena Strikers FC, 5-0, with goals from Kihyda Rowland (10’, 30’ & 34’) and Shamika Lambey (65’ & 67’). Game 2 – It was another 5-0 shutout, as Altitude Chics won over Stann Creek Hyper Jewels with goals from Rhea Burgess (7’), Sabrina Eiley (19’, 24’ & 59’) and Diana Vega (23’).
Ambergris Stadium – The visiting Verdes Rebels edged San Pedro Invaders, 3-2. Verdes got a goal apiece from Diana Pacheco (8’), Elizabeth Escobar (13’) and Ana Sanchez (78’); while Tamara Baptist (45+’ & 90+’) netted both goals for San Pedro.
Sunday games results:
Norman Broaster Stadium – Belmopan’s Jewel Fury crushed Cayo Dreamers, 7-1, with goals from Esmeralda Ramirez (6’), Gisel Baeza (32’), Jayda Brown (39’, 44’ & 46’), Zulma Ortega (76’) and Xhania Dubon (83’); while the only goal for the Dreamers was by Daysi Paiz (57’).
People’s Stadium – Home standing Gladiators dropped BDF FC, 1-0, with a goal from Miriam Villamil (27’).
