BELIZE CITY, Thurs. Dec. 8, 2016–A woman and her neighbor were both chopped by her stepson at her home on Louise Bevans Street in the Port Loyola area this morning. The stepmother, Consuelo Pop, 52, was chopped in the forehead, her shoulder and her hand, while her neighbor, D’Angelo Figueroa, 23, was chopped in the upper back.
Pop and Figueroa were rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH). She was declared to be in a critical condition, and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, where she is fighting for her life. Figueroa was admitted to ward in a serious condition.
Dinsdale Flowers, 19, who lives with Pop, was arrested on the scene and is expected to be charged with 2 counts of attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm, and grievous dangerous harm, among other charges that will be brought against him.
Superintendent Alden Dawson, deputy commander of Eastern Division South, told the media at the Racoon Street Police Station this afternoon that police were on patrol on the Louise Bevans Street when they were alarmed by a commotion and went to Pop’s house to see what was the matter.
When they arrived, police saw Flowers with a machete and the two persons bleeding from their wounds. They immediately arrested Flowers and rushed the two victims to the KHMH.
Police do not yet know why the teenager chopped his stepmother and their neighbor. Deputy Commander Dawson said that since it is a family affair, the Domestic Unit of the Police Department will lead the charge against Flowers.
