General2 Guatemala fishermen busted fishing illegally in the Stann Creek seas

PORT HONDURAS MARINE RESERVE, Toledo, Mon. Apr. 9, 2018– Two fishermen from Guatemala were busted at about 2:00 this morning by rangers of the Toledo Institute for Development and Environment (TIDE) for fishing illegally in the Port Honduras Marine Reserve.

Information to us is that the rangers, along with Coast Guard officers, were conducting routine night patrols in the southern seas of Belize when they came upon the fishermen.

The fishermen were taken to Punta Gorda, where they were booked by the Fisheries Department for illegal fishing, commercial fishing without a fishing license, and commercial fishing without a boat license. It is expected that they will also be charged with illegal entry into the country by the Immigration Department.
