Belize Bank Blazers wins 6th Charles Solis Memorial Tournament

The VI Charles Solis Memorial Tournament was held yesterday, Sunday, at Rogers Stadium with 4 teams – Esperanza Wolverines, Camalote Blazers, Belize Bank Blazers and Lord’s Bank Sunrise participating in a double elimination tournament.

In the opening game of the tourney, Belize Bank Blazers defeated Sunrise of Lords Bank by a 12-1 score. In game two, it was Esperanza Wolverines over Camalote Blazers, 6–1. Game three saw Belize Bank Blazers shutting out Esperanza Wolverines in a low scoring affair, 3–0. Camalote Blazers then dealt Lords Bank Sunrise their second loss in the fourth game of the day by an 11–1 margin, thus eliminating Sunrise. Esperanza Wolverines proceeded to clip Camalote Blazers once again in the fifth game of the day by a 7–4 score, also sending the Camalote Blazers to the showers.

In the final game, undefeated Belize Bank Blazers dealt a second shutout to Esperanza Wolverines, this time by a 5-0 score, to eliminate the Wolverines and capture 1st place in the tournament. Esperanza Wolverines had to settle for 2nd place, and Camalote Blazers was 3rd. Belize Bank Blazers’ ace, Ashley Lucas, who registered all 3 wins, including 2 shutouts, received the MVP award.

The championship trophy was donated by the Solis family and presented by Mr. Rory Solis, son of a beloved and esteemed member of the softball family, the late coach Charles Solis.

(Ed. Note: Reigning Belize City and National champs BTL did not participate in the Charles Solis Memorial due to scheduling difficulties, but they will be in action in an interesting match-up this Friday night at Rogers Stadium against the Belize Bank Blazers in the on-going Belize City competition.)
