Burglaries in Belmopan and Punta Gorda

A bar and a house were burglarized in separate break-ins in Punta Gorda and in Belmopan respectively.

Thieves got away with over $2,100 from the bar in Punta Gorda, and from the house in Belmopan, thieves stole over $5,100. Both burglaries occurred on Saturday.

Maria Rivera reported to police that at about 2:00 Saturday morning, she locked her bar, Sea Splash, located on Pompano Street in Punta Gorda, and went home.

She returned at about 8:00 that same Saturday morning and found that her bar had been broken into. She said that she discovered that a Black Toshiba computer valued at $ 2,100 and twenty-nine bottles of Belikin beer, valued at $ 87, had been stolen, bringing the total value of stolen items to $2,187.

That same Saturday, the home of Jason Rivero of Oriole Street in Belmopan was reportedly burglarized and thieves stole a TLC flat screen television valued at $4,530. Also stolen were a pair of Jordan slippers valued at $338 and a Jordan Fry/Red tennis shoes valued at $290. Together, the items stolen from Rivero amounted to $5,158 in value.

Rivero told police that at about 7:00 Saturday evening he locked his house, but when he returned at about 7:00 Sunday morning, he saw that the front door had been forced open and realized that the house had been broken into. He then checked the house and found that the items had been stolen.

Anyone with information that could lead to the recovery of the items is urged to call the Punta Gorda Police Station at 722-2022 or the Belmopan Police Station at 822- 2222.
