Late this evening the Government of Belize issued a notice indicating that the controlled price for Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG), also known as butane, is being increased, effective today, Monday, October 28, 2013.
The last price increase took effect on September 6, 2013. Today’s increase of $1 on the 100-pound cylinder puts the price at the highest recorded for the last 12-month period.
Last November, butane prices fell from a high of $118 to $117. Prices continued to fall to $113 through to April. In fact, official data indicate that this price held for five months, until the price hike in September.
Today’s increase represents the second consecutive rise in butane prices in just over a month, completely eroding the price ease which consumers had received earlier this year.
The notice on the new butane prices was posted by the Supplies Control Unit in the Ministry of Trade, Private Sector Development and Consumer Protection.
Whereas the Belize City and Corozal Town price is now $118 per 100-pound cylinder, Punta Gorda will pay $123.
