BELIZE CITY, Thurs. Feb. 5, 2015–The Central Secondary Schools Sports Association (CSSSA) held the first series of games in its 2015 CSSSA high school football competition at the Ladyville football field, but CSSSA president Deon Sutherland announced today that the coming weekend games will be played at the MCC Grounds, which was opened for the PLB football game on Sunday, February 1, after being closed for renovation since June 2, 2014.

The high school football tournament got under way with 2 male games played at the Ladyville football field on Saturday, January 24, when SJC bombed Sadie Vernon Tech, 6-0; and Gwen Lizarraga High drilled Belize High School by the same margin, 6-0.

This past Saturday, January 31, 1 female (F) and 3 male (M) high school games were played at the Ladyville football field. (F) SCA defeated Ladyville Technical High, 3-0, with goals from Renesha Martinez, Jennifer Estrada and Jody Pott. (M) Edward P. Yorke won, 2-1, over Maude Williams High. Kevin Najera and Kelvin Franklin shook the net for E.P. Yorke, while Trey Gentle scored for Maude Williams. (M) Wesley also clipped Nazarene High by a 2-1 score, with goals from Deandre Pitter and Shemar Thompson. Nazarene’s goal was by Mario Rivera. And (M) Ladyville Tech bombed Excelsior High, 4-0, with a goal apiece from David Solorzano, Ascer Vasquez, Rendron Baptist and Aaron Baptist.

The tournament takes a shift of venue this weekend, as the games that were originally scheduled for Saturday, February 7, in Ladyville, will now be played at the MCC Grounds in Belize City as follows:

Sat. Feb. 7, starting at 9:30 a.m.
Game 1 – (M) Wesley vs E.P. Yorke
Game 2 – (M) Gwen Lizarraga High vs SJC
Game 3 – (F – championship) Gwen Lizarraga High vs SCA
Game 4 – (M) Ladyville Tech vs the loser of the pick between the winners of Game 1 and Game 2 above.

According to today’s CSSSA release, the date for the male championship final next week will be set after consultation with the two teams involved.
