InternationalNo foul play in the death of American who died in Corozal

Retired American Mary Stivers, 62, a resident of Corozal who was originally from Ohio, United States, died after she was rushed to the Corozal Hospital at about 5:00 Saturday morning.

Edward Stivers, 61, also a retired American, who was staying with his wife at Copa Banana Guest House in Corozal, told police that he was awakened from his sleep early Saturday morning by sounds coming from Mary’s room, and he went to see what was happening.

He said he saw her grasping for breath, and quickly rushed her to the Corozal Hospital, but she died shortly after.

Doctors reported that Mary suffered from high cholesterol and hypertension. Police do not suspect foul play in the death, and the death has been declared as having been caused by a massive seizure.
