The father of a girl, 15, of Corozal, has been detained by police, pending charges of incest at the direction of the Office of the Public Prosecutions. The girl reported that her father had been taking sexual advantage of her since she was 11 years old, and that he had been raping her on a frequent basis.

The girl was taken to the Corozal Hospital, where doctors who examined her certified that she had been carnally known. The father was immediately arrested.

The girl and her mother went to the police, where the girl reported that she had been facing constant threats from her father that if she told her mother what was happening, he would kill her and her mother.

The mother and daughter reported that at about 7:30 Saturday evening, the father came home intoxicated; on his arrival, he started to behave in a disorderly fashion and began a domestic argument. He left the house but returned after about an hour, at which time he asked for and got a cellphone, and broke it into pieces.

The father then went into the girl’s room and broke her cellphone also.

He then went into the kitchen, grabbed a knife and charged at her to stab her. The girl ran and he began chasing her with the knife.

The girl ran to her uncle for help. She reported that she got very fearful for her life, and that was when she decided to tell her mother what was happening – that her father had been raping her since she was 11.

The girl told police that her father last raped her about five months ago, but frequently reminded her that she must not say anything to her mother about what was happening.

The father, so far, has been charged for the crime of damage to property. Directives from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution are being awaited to charge him with multiple counts of incest, and aggravated assault of an indecent nature.
