Police on an anti-drug operation in the city, on Easter Monday and yesterday, seized two pistols and detained five persons.
At about 5:00 p.m. Easter Monday evening, the police went to Majestic Alley, where they conducted searches on a residence in an effort to confiscate drugs, guns or ammunition. Present at the time of the search was a man, 20, who witnessed the search in the house.
The search led to the discovery of a pistol loaded with 5 live rounds, and the man was immediately taken into custody as a result. He will be charged with kept unlicensed firearm and ammunition at the conclusion of the investigation.
Then at about 1:45 a.m. yesterday, police on mobile patrol on Fairweather Street attempted to stop a Toyota 4Runner to conduct a routine search, but the vehicle did not stop. Instead, the driver sped away, and a high speed chase ensued.
The vehicle was caught on Prince Street and four men were found to be travelling in the vehicle. A search was conducted on the men and the vehicle, and police found a gun loaded with 14 live rounds in the vehicle.
The four men were immediately arrested and will be charged with keeping a firearm without a gun license, keeping ammunition without a gun license, and handling stolen goods, at the end of the investigation.
