BENQUE VIEJO DEL CARMEN, Cayo District, Fri. Aug. 4, 2017–Two women living in Mahogany Heights, Belize District, were found with ninety-nine .45 live rounds, a type of ammunition which is prohibited in Belize.

Both women have been arrested and charged with keeping prohibited ammunition. If found guilty they can expect a jail sentence of 3 years, which can be extended up to 7 years, according to Section 6 of 1994 of the Substantive Laws of Belize, Revised Edition of 2000.

The two women have been detained at the Benque Viejo Police Station pending arraignment for the offense at the Benque Viejo Del Carmen Magistrate’s Court.

Police said that on the evening of Friday, August 4, they were conducting a patrol in Centennial Park, located on St. Joseph Street in Benque Viejo Del Carmen, when they saw Shanice Monique Flowers, 25, and Robin Tameka Whitaker, 18, both residents of Mahogany Heights, in the Belize District, standing near a snack shop.

They approached the women and searched a grey sling bag which one of them was carrying, and found the 99 bullets. Both women were immediately arrested.
