ROARING CREEK, Cayo District, Mon. Sept. 26, 2016–Belmopan police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Rudolph Selgado, 32, of Roaring Creek, a father of three children. He was found in a decomposed state, with his throat slashed with chop wounds on the head and body in a corn field, in the Globe area near Valley of Peace, on Saturday morning, September 24.

An onsite post-mortem exam was conducted to certify the cause of his death, and he was buried at the conclusion of the autopsy.

A police investigation led to a man, also of Roaring Creek, who has been detained.

Selgado’s common-law wife, Kayla Spence, had reported him missing on Thursday, September 22, after he failed to return home after leaving the previous morning, September 21, to go to Belmopan to enjoy the Independence Day activities.

She told police that at about 11:30 Independence Day night, Selgado called her and told her that he was coming home, and that he loved her, and she was to wait up for him, but he never came.

On Thursday morning, she began to look for him and went to the Belmopan Market, the Belmopan Police Station and to the hospital in Belmopan, but he was nowhere to be found.

Spence then went to the police and reported him missing, after which she went to the Mayor of Belmopan for assistance, and she was assisted by a support team, equipped with vehicles, to look for Selgado. Other persons were also made available to search for him.

Also joining the search was Inspector Aaron Gamboa and his team from the Belmopan police, who concentrated their search in the Globe area and in the Valley of Peace. On Saturday morning, the team responded to a report by a man that he had smelled something foul in the area, and on going to the area, the search team found a decomposing body lying on the ground in a corn field.

Selgado’s common-law-wife, Spence, was alerted and she identified the corpse as that of Rudolph Selgado, bringing the search for their loved one to a sad end.

A police investigation continues into the tragic murder of this father of three children.
