Ontario?s John Casey, 68, found dead on farm – chopped in head and face

GeneralOntario?s John Casey, 68, found dead on farm - chopped in head and face

The chop in the head was about 6-8 inches long, but no weapon has been found, said police.

This latest murder is senseless, police say, as the elderly man was very quiet and reportedly had no problems with anyone.

Tonight, as police try to piece together their findings, there is little to go by. Police say, however, that they have ruled out robbery as a motive, as the deceased?s money, a very small amount was found in his room.

Inside Casey?s bedroom, police found a pool of blood on the bed, with a spattering of blood in front of the bed on the floor.

His front door was found unlocked, said police, but everything was in order, and nothing appeared to have been taken. Police are unable to say whether Casey was chopped inside and taken outside into the yard, where he was found.

An investigation into the matter has revealed that Casey, who was unmarried and had no children, was last seen at about 9:00 p.m. last night at a neighbor?s home, where he usually goes to watch television.

According to that neighbor, when Casey left her home, she saw him up to the point when he was near the road that leads to his home.

That was the last time the deceased was seen alive, said police.

It was not until 6:30 a.m., that Casey was found by his brother, Christopher Casey, 64, apparently dead, and he immediately notified the police.

When Amandala contacted relatives today, we were informed that no one had any idea why Casey was murdered, as he had no enemies or had any misunderstanding with anyone. Casey, said relatives, was a very quiet and church-going individual.

A retiree, Casey once worked for the Ministry of Natural Resources as a surveyor. He is survived by his mother, Eunice Casey, in Pomona, Stann Creek District, two sisters and six brothers.

Funeral services are uncertain at this time, as a post-mortem is tentatively scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, in Belize City.

In the past year and a half, there have been two murder cases of elderly persons, who were living alone, and police fear that living alone may have made them targets for criminals.

From our records, there have been three other murders in the vicinity of the Western Highway. The most recent case was over the weekend, when Guatemala national Andres Lopez, 42, was found dead on the Western Highway between Miles 31 and 32.

In February of this year, Wilfredo Reque?a, 68, a watchman, was found dead on a farm in St. Matthews. He had been living alone on the farm. Last year, another watchman was found dead behind JB?s, located between Miles 31 and 32.
