As part of the planning for the upcoming Belize Telemedia National U-15 and U-17 tournament, the president of the Belize Basketball Federation (BBF), Mr. Paul Thompson along with Head Coach of the National Junior Basketball team, Mr. Matthew Smiling visited Punta Gorda on January 15 and 16. The purpose of the visit was to meet with the basketball community in Punta Gorda to discuss the formation of a Toledo Basketball Association. In attendance at the meeting were players, coaches, referees, parents and Sports Council representatives. A pro-tem basketball committee was established to administrate the upcoming competition. Selected as members of the Pro-Tem Committee were Mr. Henry Locario – Chair, Ms. Christine Alvarez and Mr. Jerry Nicholas – Members.
Mr. Jerry Nicholas was presented a certificate for his recent participation in the FIBA Digital workshop which was held in San Ignacio in December of 2010.
As a follow-up to the visit, training will be offered for coaches, table officials and referees on the weekend of January 22 and 23.
