InternationalRoad accident claims life of British woman, 64

A British national who has been living in Belize since 2007 died after she was knocked down by a motorcycle in the area of Mile 2 1/2 on the Philip Goldson Highway, near Siesta Inn, while she was crossing the road, at about 7:00 Tuesday evening.

Patricia Johnson, 64, of Bella Vista, was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, but died while doctors were giving her medical treatment.

The driver of the motorcycle, Jason Grant, has been arrested and issued a Notice of Intended Prosecution.

Information is that Johnson was walking across the road with her dog on her way home after buying some items at the nearby store when a speeding motorcycle knocked her down. As a result, she suffered massive head and body injuries.

The driver of the motorcycle was unhurt, and the cycle was impounded by police.

Police say that on their arrival on the scene, they met Jason Grant, an electrician of 4323 Faber’s Road, Belize City, who reported that he was travelling on his black Honda motorcycle towards Haulover Bridge, when, upon nearing Siesta Inn, he knocked down Johnson.

It is expected that Johnson’s body will be cremated, since she has no known family in Belize or the UK.
