GeneralTourist falls fifteen feet at Xunantunich

SAN JOSE SUCCOTZ, Cayo District, Mon. Apr. 23, 2018– On Wednesday, April 18, at around 4:30 p.m., a tourist was at the Xunantunich archaeological site when she fell off the temple’s A-6 structure. Cindy Vanhoff, 59, was climbing down the stairs of the temple when she lost her footing and fell fifteen feet to the ground.

BERT ambulances arrived 50 minutes after the accident, and Vanhoff was transported to the San Ignacio Community Hospital. The extent of her injuries is unknown, but sources say she was able to talk.

A National Institute of Culture and History (NICH) representative stated that they “advise all visitors to archaeological reserves to please exercise caution while climbing structures and to please climb only where allowed.”
