SANTA MARTHA, Stann Creek District, Fri. Aug. 4, 2017–Four American tourists were rescued from a creek between Miles 28 and 29 on the Hummingbird Highway after the vehicle in which they were traveling fell off a bridge at about 4:30 yesterday evening.
Fortunately, some Coast Guard officers who were traveling in a vehicle behind them saw the accident and rushed to their rescue. They were all recovered from the water and taken to the Southern Regional Hospital in Dangriga.
The four Americans- – Benjamin Paul, 47; Katharine O’Brian, 36; Rafael Paul, 6; and Carmelita Paul, 3 — suffered varying degrees of injuries, none of which were considered life-threatening.
Benjamin Paul told police that he lost control of the vehicle while driving over the bridge and it ran down into the creek, 15 feet below.
A very grateful Paul family has expressed its appreciation to the individuals who helped them after the accident.
