BELIZE CITY, Mon. Aug. 17, 2020– Commissioner of Police Chester Williams announced that 188 persons were arrested over the weekend countrywide for various violations of the Emergency Powers Regulations that were put in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Williams said that 128 persons were arrested for failing to wear a cloth mask or some other face (mouth) covering whilst in public, while 52 were charged for breach of curfew and 8 were charged for failing to practice social distancing.

Members of the public are reminded that anyone found guilty of a violation of the COVID-19-related protocols will be fined $5,000 fine or be sentenced to three years in prison for the offenses.

Commissioner Williams calls on the public to do all they can to combat the spread of the COVID-19 virus, and to protect themselves from the illness.
