The art of headline writing is one which allows you a certain amount of freedom. You have heard of poetic licence? Poets are allowed to do certain unorthodox things with the language in order to achieve rhyme, meter and other poetic characteristics. Well, the headline writer is allowed a certain freedom. One reason is that the headline writer is confined to very few words. He/she does not have time to explain or elaborate. The second reason the headline writer is allowed freedom, is because the headline article itself, which follows immediately, explains and clears up any confusion or uncertainty which may derive from the actual headline itself.
During the height of the 2003 general elections campaign, inside sources tell us, one national television station, which insisted on being paid in cash, was collecting in the neighbourhood of $80,000 a week in payments from the People?s United Party for running television campaign ads. Multiply that $80,000 by two (for two national television stations), then multiply that by five or six weeks (or more) for the length of the campaign, then add in all the ads for the district television stations - broadcast and cable. You haven?t even added in the costs of ad productions. The costs here include models, travel, shooting, audio, editing, splicing, etc. Each television ad costs several thousand dollars just to prepare.

Since last Friday, May 6, 2005, there has been a lot of talk about Newco Limited?a company registered in Belize in late 2002. Newco is a company owned by a group of American investors who have called for United Nations arbitration over the Government of Belize?s decision to abandon an agreement it supposedly had with the group for the management and expansion of Belize?s international airport (the Philip Goldson International Airport).
GOB had claimed that it abandoned the agreement because the American investors were not living up to their deadlines, and it instead entered into a second agreement with a new group of investors from Belize, the USA and the UK.
The MCC Grounds has been the home for Kulture Yabra for many years until recently in this year?s campaign, they had to share it with new City Franchise Kremandala Lake, who we might add, didn?t do too well in their BPFL Semi Pro debut. While Belize City football fans have grown accustomed to seeing post-season play and championships for quite a number of years, this is the second consecutive year that Kulture Yabra failed to make the playoffs. The Calcutta Bulls are responsible for the 2004 elimination of Kulture.

Locally the Win-Belize Female Basketball regular season has come to an end, and now the real games begin. Seeded at #1 are defending champs ?Maria Chang Eagles?, who went undefeated in the regular season.
Basketball is alive in the Garden City and last weekend fans were treated to five games in that municipality?s 2005 basketball tournament organized by the Belmopan Basketball Association (BAA).

The first thing a political party needs is an internal constitution. This internal constitution should be like a Bible, where the followers would learn the philosophy of such organization and see to it that the future followers learn and follow the steps of the constitution. This constitution is to be set up in a way that each step is an objective.
A political party should not be a place where whosoever can step in because they have an academic degree and start running as an area representative. It takes time to form an organization. It has been shown that there is no space for opportunists in politics.

We have seen powerful factions within the PUP and the UDP work together before, most dramatically in the incredible case of Freetown area representative, Derek Aikman, who was declared a bankrupt and expelled from the House of Representatives in 1992. This case still has me shaking my head in disbelief, because Derek Aikman was simply one of the most spectacularly successful political campaigners Belize has ever seen.
Amandala has confirmed from credible Government sources that the Los Angeles branch of Lufthansa Consulting is seeking roughly US$33 million in damages from the Government of Belize, for allegedly breaching its agreement with Lufthansa. The consulting firm, headquartered in Germany, was supposed to take over the management of the Philip Goldson International Airport?Belize?s only international airline port?in late 2003.
On its website (www.lhconsulting.com), Lufthansa Consulting says that it was expected to deliver an airport master plan, including a 20-year airport facility expansion and an airport business plan.

On Tuesday, April 26, a police report said that James Young, 28, was shot by a resident of Mile 1 ? on the Western Highway during a burglary, and later died from his injuries.
Young, the alleged intruder, was caught red-handed burglarizing the home of a resident at about 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 26.
The name of the businessman has not been disclosed by police.
