When pharmacists undermine doctors

Editor AMANDALA

Dear Sir,

Congratulations, Mrs. Isabel Tun.

When there are sufferings and advantages taken against my people, discourses of good will are of no use. In any enterprise or institution once we are dealing with people, there are differences. Once a person hires out their services, such services should be carried out with professionalism. Whenever there are differences or discrepancies among co-workers, this should be solved internally without damaging or involving customers or patients.

KHMH guard, 33, ends his own life

Alton Abraham Hurbert Bailey II, 33, a security guard and father of five, suddenly ended his life sometime around 10:00 last night, ten days short of his 34thbirthday, after a heated argument with his common-law-wife, Radiance Garay. Bailey, a resident of #32 Nurse Seay Street in Kings Park, Belize City, would have celebrated his birthday on Saturday, April 8.

A post-mortem conducted on Bailey?s body late this afternoon has certified that he died at 10:00 p.m. on March 29 from asphyxia due to hanging.

Odinga Lumumba Memorial Symposium a success!

?The state of a nation is the state of its people?

- attorney Michael Young

?While it costs $1,732 per student for post-secondary education, it costs $4,380 to keep that person behind bars?that?s two and half times as much.?

- Mrs. Isabel Tun, Ph. D.

For three hours of serious discourse and reflection, about 300 Belizeans gathered last night at the Holy Redeemer Parish Hall in Belize City on the occasion of the first annual Odinga Lumumba Memorial Symposium, under the theme The State of the Belizean Nation

After 59 weeks, Aldo Ayuso is charged

A year and seven weeks after ex-cop Aldo Ayuso, 30, allegedly shot and killed Leslie Rogers, Jr., 21, police escorted him to the Belize City Magistrate?s Court, where he was charged with one count of manslaughter.

On Wednesday, March 29, he was arraigned in Court #1 in front of the Chief Magistrate, Herbert Lord. The prosecutor did not object to bail, and Chief Magistrate Lord granted Ayuso bail of $5,000, plus one surety of the same amount, which he met.

Tonight two brothers, ages 18 and 23, are behind bars after their 16-year-old half-sister reported to police that each of them had sex with her on separate dates in 2004.

They were each charged with one count of incest on Tuesday, March 28, in the San Pedro Magistrate?s Court in front of Magistrate Earl Jones.

Police say Wu Baohua, 42, committed suicide

The Chinese community is mourning the sudden death of Wu Bahohua, 42, whose body was found hanging from a tree at Mile 4 on the Western Highway at around noon yesterday, Wednesday.

To our PUP friends

We have discussed with you before in this newspaper, the fact that a small entity which makes an alliance with one of the two major parties in Belize, can expect a difficult time. The two recent examples are those of the NABR between 1993 and 1998, and our own Kremandala experience between 1998 and 2004.

Anthony Chanona rebuts

Editor Sir,

Please allow me the privilege to rebut an article from the Belmopan City Council which appeared in Amandala of March 26, 2006.

The ?Pebble Rock Nightclub? is located approximately 300 yards away from City Hall and is owned by the Hon. John Saldivar. Since the UDP took office in March, it has held at least two functions in as many weeks. This is two times more than it ever did in 6 years, as all applications to operate this establishment were denied on the basis of complaints received from residents about loud noise and public drinking.

FROM THE PUBLISHER

In the pantheon of our Belizean patriots, the people of Belize rate Philip Goldson and Odinga Lumumba at the very top, but we may not have given enough credit to Nadia Cattouse.
