Belize City, Fri. Sept. 10, 2021– On Friday, September 10, just after 6:30 p.m., the local fire department received reports of a huge fire at the corner of Sibun and Nargusta Streets in Belize City that engulfed a total of 4 houses in flames.

Prior to the arrival of firefighters on the scene, a tenant of one of the houses became aware of the blaze after noticing smoke and sensing intense heat. Upon inspection, he noticed that one of the smaller houses in the vicinity was inflames. The tenant tried to extinguish the fire, but the intense blaze raged on and ultimately engulfed four buildings.

When the police and the local fire department arrived, the houses and their contents were unsalvageable. The Fire Department, however, was able to put out the flames engulfing the four buildings.

The local fire department is considering arson to be the likely cause of the fire. Reports suggest that there was an altercation between a resident of the home at which the fire started and another individual shortly before the fire ensued. That resident claims she had approached police about the suspect prior to the suspected arson.

The police are seeking one person in connection with their investigation into the cause of the blaze.
