The vast majority of us cannot afford the blinds and lead shielding required to block out the light, not to mention the air conditioning to compensate for the blocked Caribbean Sea breeze. Perhaps we need a monthly government subvention for that.

Also, through some very initial research, I have found out that supposedly the tower lighting system is not to international aviation standards. International standards dictate that any tower in the vicinity of an airport must have only red lights on it, to avoid pilot confusion. So if in fact the light is not to standards, then its purpose is irrelevant.

In addition, this nuisance light has caused the property value and thusly home investments large and small to decline in value. Ladyville was once a peaceful neighbourhood; now we have a nightclub.

To give credit, the Broadcasting Authority has tried unsuccessfully to get the matter resolved, but it seems as though the $20,000 light cost to Love FM has become an issue. To quote from a letter sent to me concerning this issue, ?We regret the inconvenience of the tower light on your living accommodations, but as the Civil Aviation Authority instructed the radio operator to install the light without giving any specific instructions on how to position it for minimum effect on residences in the area, and as the installation or any changes is a very expensive process, the BBA cannot at this time request that Mr. Villanueva invest in re-positioning the light.?

So, because someone at CAA did not do their job and because it will cost money, residents must accept a lower standard of living. It will cost money to REPOSITION, how much would that be ? the cost of a new GOB SUV? I thought we were living in a good country. Sure, we can spend tens of millions that the tourists get a smooth ride on Marine Parade, but we can?t spend a couple thousand to make sure the thousands of residents of Ladyville sleep well at night.

I have suggested that perhaps something as simple a shield could solve the problem, or perhaps dimming the light at night. There should be little if any aviation activity at night from the PGIA anyway, or maybe, just maybe, for once the Government could do its job and look after the people, at least if they have any hope of getting re-elected anyway.

I ask on behalf of several thousand Ladyville residents and voters ? please STOP THE MADNESS and help us get a good night?s sleep.
