A rape victim?s nightmare

LettersA rape victim?s nightmare

After seven years I have decided to go to the police station and ask for the report and evidence, which was the clothes I wore on that day, then I went over to the hospital and asked them for my record. The police told me to check in Belmopan for a rapid response. I did talk to the superintendent Mr. Orio, who was so helpful and professional (thank you so much). No report was found, no evidence, same at the hospital.

The hospital said they burn records every six months, and besides I came in at the ER, so they would not have kept any records for that long. At the police station it was different. Exactly 15 days are missing out of the 1998 report book and the clothes as evidence got given away, how disgusting. In Belize there is no such thing as ?Cold Case?.

Wish I could tell you why I want to do something about it now. I wish I can, but believe me when I say it?s to save someone else from my nightmare, and if it works, it would feel like justice. Except for my mother?s ?comforting? words, which will haunt me until I die. But as time goes by I get stronger and I will make sure to be a better mother than you.

To those who have mothers who will die for them, I envy you.
