The officer said that he saw one of the men fall to the ground, and rushed to his aid. He said that he then restrained the other man and took away the weapon, which was a brown-handled knife, believed to be the weapon used to inflict the deadly stab wound. The officer added that he placed the man under arrest, using handcuffs. The officer said that he realized that the man who had fallen to the ground was still alive, and he left the detainee on the street and rushed the victim over to the hospital, but not in time to save his life. The victim was identified as Wasani Belgrave, 21, of a Freetown Road address. The officer said that when he returned to scene with other policemen, the man was nowhere to be found, even though he had been cuffed. Amandala today spoke with the mother of the deceased, Cecilia Lewis. She last saw her son last week Monday, adding that he was coming from work at the time of the incident. She said that she learned of his death when one of her cousins, who resides in the area, went to her home and told her about it. Cecilia said that her son was stabbed in his heart with a 7-inch blade. Belgrave was laid to rest yesterday, with funeral services at the St. Martin de Porres Church. He leaves behind his mother, Cecilia Lewis; father, Wallace Belgrave; 3 sisters, Paulette Lewis, Danette and Ardette Belgrave; four brothers, Ronaldo and Kenrick Lewis, and Ashton and Ardon Belgrave; a host of relatives and friends to mourn his death. Late this afternoon, a police e-mail said that they were looking for one Alex Palacio, ?wanted in connection with May 19th stabbing murder of 21-year-old Wasani Belgrave.?
