GeneralMother, 18, gives birth inside vehicle on Xmas Day!

However, hospital authorities said that the first birth that the hospital registered was the child of Darlene Nolberto, 31, around 5:17 a.m.

Nolberto, a resident of #1887 Rivas Estate, Dangriga Town, delivered a girl, her fifth child, who weighed a whopping 8 pounds 2 ounces. Both mother and child were discharged on Sunday morning and are doing well.

But it was the birth of Rodriguez?s baby that intrigued the hospital?s staff. Hospital authorities do not know what time the baby was actually born. Nurse Savery, the nurse in who took care of the baby upon its arrival at the Southern Regional Hospital, told the newspaper that with all the excitement over the unusual birth that morning, no one can say what time the baby drew her first breath, but they believe it was around 6:30 a.m.

The baby girl, who has not yet been named, weighed 7 pounds 11 ounces.

The mother reported that when she began feeling contractions at about 5:00 a.m., she was rushed to the hospital, but along the way, she realized that the baby was coming, and so they had to stop on the Southern Highway, about six miles from its junction with the Hummingbird Highway. At the time, the taxi driver and the young woman?s mother-in-law accompanied her.

Nurse Savery said that both mother and child arrived at the Dangriga Hospital at 7:25 a.m., and both of them were doing well, given the circumstances of the birth.

She said that the mother told her that her mother-in-law had experience in childbirth, and had assisted with the birth.

Both mother and baby were discharged from the hospital Sunday morning, said Nurse Savery.
