7 vie for Miss St. Michael’s College

General7 vie for Miss St. Michael’s College
Tomorrow night, at 7:00, seven young, attractive and talented young ladies, students of St. Michael’s College, will be vying for the prestigious title of “Queen” of their school in a pageant to be held at the Holy Redeemer Parish Hall.

Ranging in age from 14-17, the students are from the first to fourth forms.

The young ladies are Nishawn Martinez, 14, of form 1 Green; Janine Webster, 15, also of 1 Green; Simone Nunez, 15, of 2 Green; Letecia Moody, 17, of 2 White; Francine Dougal, 16, of 3 Brown; Natasha Hamilton, 16, of 3 Brown; and Lisa Hinds, 15, of 3 Green.

All contestants will be representing animals that coincide with this years’ theme for the show, “Belize, embracing its natural beauty – Its flora and fauna.”

Nishawn will be representing the national animal, the Tapir; Janinewill be performing as the Mahogany Tree; Simone will shine as a Jaguar; Letecia hopes to dominate the pageant by displaying a Black Orchid; Francine hopes to capture the title by flaunting off the Hibiscus flower; Natasha will fly around the stage as a butterfly and Lisa hopes to not only be as colorful as the Keel-billed Toucan, but as unique.

This is an annual pageant, we were told by a teacher of the school, and one of the organizers, Deborah Martin, even though there was no pageant held in 2005. Last year, 2006, the title was captured by Tiffarah Dawson, who is presently a third form student of the college. This year the main focus of the pageant is the costume segment, she added.

In conclusion, Martin promises that there is much to look forward to and enjoy at the pageant. With that said, she invites the entire family to come out.

The entrance fee is $5 for adults in advance and $6 at the door, while the charge for a child is $3. The pageant will feature dances by the group LTL Dancers and Mad Skills Dancers. There will also be songs by a student, Raphael O’Brien, and the SMC karaoke champion, Janelle Armstrong.

The emcee for the night is Miss Marlette Lacayo.
