International2nd Mexico-Belize Border Coordination Meeting
The Embassy of Mexico in Belize informs that the 2nd Mexico-Belize Border Coordination Meeting was held today in the city of Chetumal, Quintana Roo, Mexico.
 
Amongst other objectives reached at the meeting, direct communication, the coordination and exchange of information between authorities of both countries on matters of immigration, customs, public security and border patrol was secured.
 
The common objective is to guarantee a secure and modern border that will facilitate and expedite the flow of persons and goods, converting the zone into a source of opportunities in the development of both countries.
 
Among other things, the participants were informed on the new policies implemented by the administration of the Corozal Free Zone and the Police Department of Belize to guarantee the security of visitors to the area.
 
In the same context, the different Mexican security agencies updated their Belizean counterparts on the policies and operations to provide security and attention in the border area and in Chetumal, especially to visiting Belizeans.
 
Likewise, the Mexican authorities, from Quintana Roo and the federal government, reiterated to the government of Belize the offer of various programs of cooperation pertaining to security, exchange of information, training and evidence finding for members of the police with the objective of having an adequate and efficient border administration.
 
Present at the meeting for Belize were representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Security, the Belize Defense Force, the Belize Police Department, Customs, Immigration and Border Management.
 
For Mexico at the federal level, there were representatives from the Ministries of the Interior, Defense, Navy, Finance, Public Security and the Attorney General’s office; and from the government of Quintana Roo there were representatives from the Department of Interior, Public Security, local Attorney General’s office and the City Council of Chetumal.
