Dear Editor,
On 21 of January, there was an unfortunate and horrible incident involving a stabbing at that school. A student was stabbed in the lower back and abdomen, resulting in a damaged kidney and gall bladder. The student sought help of teachers at the lounge and two teachers ran to investigate what had happened. He showed him his hand; they thought he was only stabbed in his hand but they saw it was in his abdomen and lower back. A teacher then sped out in his car to report it to the police in Benque Viejo. What enrages me is that NO teacher took the responsibility to take the boy to a hospital. It seemed they were more concerned with the other student (the attacker).
What happened to the other teachers or the principal in the school? The boy should have been their priority to help the boy. The principal was nowhere to be seen at that scene. Where was the principal??
Teachers were unresponsive. No one took the initiative to help the boy, to give him aid. Only Mrs. Mendez took him and rushed him to a hospital in Santa Elena. At the hospital, no one wanted to attend the boy. They asked for a sum of money to attend him, money which not even the parents had.
I thought that doctors took a pledge to save lives. But it seems that first comes money, then a LIFE! The boy could have bled to death. They called to the San Ignacio Hospital for a possibility to attend him there, but the phone only rang and rang. No one answered. Where were they? It was an emergency call!!!
After about an hour at the first hospital, finally the doctor came.
Another thing that brings shame to the Mopan teachers is that on the next day no other teacher called the boy’s parents to check on him, not even the principal. The only person updated was Mrs. Mendez, the teacher that took the boy to the hospital.
These teachers are supposed to be there for our students. The school had security but how did the boy pass the knife? He passed it wrapped in bandages by his feet. The metal scanner passed and detected the metal, but he said,”Oh, it must be the metal in my shoe. Later the stabbing took place.
This is for the readers and parents of the high school that they should take a stand and demand more security of their sons and daughters.
Thank you
Resident of San Ignacio
