Eric Lewis Savery, 37, Wilton Usher, 33, and Jamie Chavarria, 21, were all escorted from the Magistrate’s Court’s holding cell by court police to the#1 Magistrate’s court, where Chief Magistrate Margaret McKenzie arraigned them on a list of charges in connection with a home invasion and burglary that occurred in Lake Gardens, Ladyville, on Friday, January 22, 2010.
Usher, who lives at 45 Racecourse Street, Belize City, and is a self-professed stevedore, was arraigned along with Jamie Chavarria, of Corozal Town, on a charge of aggravated burglary.
According to court records, the two men, Usher and Chavarria, and one other person stole a number of items from the home of Judith Williamson. Among the items that the men allegedly took from Williamson’s house are a Toshiba laptop computer, a Guess bag, one 3G IPod, three cell phones, a Citizen wrist watch, a Sony digital camera, and $561 in Belize currency. The total amount of the valuables from the home added up to $12,131. Both men pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Eric Lewis Savery, Wilton Usher and Jamie Chavarria were all slapped with one count of conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary, to which they all pleaded not guilty.
In addition, Chavarria was charged with handling stolen goods after he was found at the corner of Lords Bank Road and the Northern Highway with a cell phone, which has since been identified as the property of Carmelita Brown. The phone is valued $1,000.
Usher too was found at the corner of Lords Bank Road and the Northern Highway with a Toshiba laptop computer, and one Guess bag. He pleaded not guilty to the charge of handling stolen goods. He also pleaded not guilty to one count of aggravated assault with a firearm upon Candace Williamson. He was booked on one count of keeping ammunition without a license for a .25 bullet that police recovered from him, and keeping a firearm without a gun license after police found him with a .25 pistol. He pleaded not guilty to the gun and ammunition charges.
According to a police file, Judith Williamson reported that on January 22, 2010 while at her home, three male persons, apparently arriving in a vehicle, appeared at her door – one accosting her niece with a firearm, and another holding a knife to her sister’s throat. The report further stated that thereafter, the group entered Williamson’s residence and demanded money. They rummaged through the house and allegedly robbed the aforementioned items.
The three men were remanded into custody at the Hattieville Prison until their next court date that has been set for March 18, 2010.
