In the Supreme Court of Justice Adolph Lucas, Wyatt Anderson, 32, convicted for the manslaughter of Robert Brown, 28, learnt that he will be serving the minimum sentence for his conviction; Anderson was given a 14-year prison sentence.
Anderson was convicted not of the charge of murder, but of manslaughter on February 3, 2011, in the courtroom of Justice Lucas, and had been awaiting sentencing.
Justice Lucas told Anderson today that he had taken everything into account and that, “I am giving you the lower scale; I am sentencing you to fourteen years”.
Justice Lucas first gave a 15-year sentence, but took into account defense attorney Ernest Staine’s suggestion on consideration of time served. Anderson had been remanded since March 10, 2009, and due to that fact, Justice Lucas allowed only for 14 years with effect from January 25, 2011.
Brown was stabbed once in the chest with a twelve-inch knife after midnight on Friday, November 21, 2008. The reportat the time was that Brown’s then girlfriend, who is also Anderson’s sister, Nekia Anderson, had gotten into an argument with Brown. She is said to have fled the scene of the argument and returned with her brother, Anderson, who then took a knife and inflicted the wound on Brown.
Anderson is no stranger to police, as he had also been previously charged with the murder of Earl Banner, 29, who was beaten and later succumbed to his injuries in February, 2007; the charge was later dropped against Anderson.
Anderson was escorted back to the prison after his court appearance.
