Glyphosate: technically not “required”

LettersGlyphosate: technically not “required”

Dear Editor,

In last week’s Letter to the Editor entitled: GMOs and Breast Cancer, BAGMO stated that most GMO crops require the use of glyphosate during their growing cycle, the herbicide we more commonly know as Roundup™.

It has since been brought to our attention that although GMO crops are genetically engineered to be resistant to this chemical so that it does become the herbicide of choice, it is up to the farmer whether or not to actually use the glyphosate.

It is therefore technically not “required.”

Bagmo apologizes for any confusion.

Thanks,
Denise Frank
