Jerimias Pichinte, 44, gets 6 years for 85 ½ lbs. of weed

CrimeJerimias Pichinte, 44, gets 6 years for 85 ½ lbs. of weed

Pichinte pleaded guilty to the two counts of drug trafficking after police found the weed in his house

Jerimias Pichinte, 44, a Salvadoran national with Belizean residency, was taken before Magistrate Clive Lino, where he pleaded guilty to two counts of drug trafficking.

According to police, at 11:00 this morning, members of the Gang Suppression Unit went to Pichinte’s home, located at #5 Princess Margaret Drive, to conduct a search for illegal firearms and ammunition.

But according to police, what they found were two amounts of cannabis in separate large black plastic bags.

Police said that when they visited the house and the door was opened for them, they saw a Hispanic man, later identified as Pichinte, holding a plastic bag in his hands. They said that when Pichinte saw them, he ran and threw the bag over an adjoining fence.

Police were able to retrieve the bag and found that it contained cannabis; a further search of the house led to the discovery of another large plastic bag which also contained cannabis, all of which were taken to the police station, along with Pichinte.

The first amount of cannabis was weighed and amounted to 33 ½ pounds, while the other bag amounted to 52 pounds. Together the two stashes thus amounted to a total of 85 ½ pounds of cannabis.

Pichinte was fined $10,000, to be paid by November 16, 2013, or he will spend 3 years in prison. He was also sentenced to 3 years for the first charge. For the second charge, he was fined another $10,000 to be paid by December 16, 2013, or he will spend 3 years in prison, and was also sentenced to another 3 years imprisonment for this second offense.

The first two 3-year sentences will run consecutively, while the second two 3-year sentences will run concurrently with the first ones, resulting in a total of 6 years in prison.
