Denver Stuart, 18, of Sandhill, is recovering at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital from head injuries after he was beaten with a piece of wood by a 16-year-old boy at about 3:30 Tuesday afternoon in the village.

Police said that the boy chased Stuart and hit him on the head with a piece of wood because Stuart did not pay him $2 he reportedly owed.

After being hit, Stuart became unconscious and began to bleed from the head, mouth and ears. He was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital Emergency Unit by BERT ambulance. Doctors have now declared his condition as serious but stable.

Police reported that the boy came up to Stuart, who was standing under the bus stop opposite the junction of the old Northern Highway and the Philip Goldson Highway, in Sandhill. The boy asked Stuart for two dollars that Stuart reportedly owed him, and when Stuart told the boy that he didn’t owe him any money, and ran, the boy picked up a piece of wood and chased him.

Police have since detained the boy pending further investigation.
