Farmer killed in fatal Southern Highway traffic accident

GeneralFarmer killed in fatal Southern Highway traffic accident

A Guatemalan farmer met his demise this past Saturday night while riding on a bicycle along the Southern Highway – he was knocked down by a motorcyclist who was traveling in the opposite direction.

Police reported that they were called to the scene of the accident between Miles 29 and 30 on the Southern Highway, where they saw three men of Hispanic descent lying on the road, and one of them was apparently dead.

They later found out that Jose Lopez, 38, a Guatemalan farmer who has been living in Cow Pen for the past four years, was riding his bicycle in the direction of Georgetown when he was unfortunately knocked down by Freddy Ordonez, 27, of Bella Vista Village, who was traveling on a motorcycle with Hector Enriquez, 39.

All three men were taken to the Southern Regional Hospital, where Lopez was pronounced dead on arrival, while Ordonez and Enriquez have both been admitted to ward in a critical but stable condition.

Dangriga police told us that Ordonez will be served with a Notice of Intended Prosecution upon his release.
